Whether you're starting up a peer support group for your college major, forming a mutual aid network, building a volunteer organization, or spinning up a topic-focused social network instance, you're going to be creating a community of people. Over time, people will join it, people will leave it, people will step into leadership roles or need a break to avoid burnout, some may try to take over and others may be spoken over. Communities, like gardens, need to be cultivated with care. Regardless of whether they're online or in person, the psychology of community and the needs of people remain the same. Our solarpunk future depends on many different types of communities, but they all share some common goals: diversity and inclusivity, accessibility, equity.
